Electric fireplaces may be more of what you are looking for if you are wanting to get a fireplace but you don’t want to remodel your home installing a chimney, chop wood, sweep soot, ashes and dirt, or wait while the room heats up. They are great as well if you don’t want to be faffing about with fireplace tools, or spending money on expensive surrounds.

Of course we all know that nothing beats a “real” fire, when it comes to the smell, appearance, and sounds, and just overall atmosphere, but it does not mean that electric fireplaces don’t pull a close second or third, and when you weigh up all that’s involved in maintaining a real fire, suddenly the electric alternative doesn’t seem too shabby. Even without the flickering flames and crackling sounds, (which some electric fireplaces do a good job of imitating) they do their best to add style as well as atmosphere to a room.

It’s best to check with how much you are paying for your electricity and when you’d have it on before jumping to the conclusion that it would be too expensive. There are some people out there who have a phobia of using any sort of electric appliance assuming it will just suck the life and soul out of your bank account. Yet it’s best to take all things into consideration. How much does heating that room cost normally? How much time and hassle would go into maintaining a real fire? And for those just looking for a decorative piece, they’ll be pleased to know that some electric fireplaces can be fully turned on without the heating element on.

For those plainly just looking at an efficient way to heat a room an electric fireplace may do a good job, but a similar one to a portable heater. So if heating’s what you’re after, don’t think you have to pay out for a fancy encasement.

Electric Fireplaces are a great alternative if you have children, or the kind of carpeting that simply you just don’t want to risk soiling! Yet from an investment point of view, they are not seen as a permanent feature, so they won’t add much value to the home, however in the current market, most people are choosing to stay put anyway so it’s best to do some living in your home instead of constantly seeing it as a piece of property.

The Southeast Texas 2011 summer drought has brought about the doom of so many of our beautiful trees, both of our loblolly pines and our many types of oak trees. We’ve been so busy lately helping our customers safely remove dead trees from their districts and properties. And our customers, typically being conservation-conscious, ask about putting the dead wood to some good use as firewood. Many ask, what’s the the kind of wood best to use for firewood? That question can be answered in two phases: what kind of wood makes for good firewood, and what process must be done to be certain that good firewood burns well.

In general, hardwoods are the best sort of wood for firewood. Hard wood is a denser wood, and this means that hard wood produces more heat as it burns (called firewood btu) than does a softer wood. Softer woods burn, agreed , but they tend to burn quicker and simply not keep you as warm in the commission of burning.

Given that our two main types of trees here in Southeast Texas are the loblolly longleaf pines and the oaks, the oak firewood would be the preferred wood for the fireplace. Oak firewood burns at anywhere between 22 and 24 firewood btu (thermal units) per cord, just depending on the exact variety of oak, making all types of oak among the preferred hardwoods for keeping warm. They burn clean, leave negligible residue, and possibly of greatest importance, oak wood has great aroma. An oak firewood fire emits a very pleasant smell, and adds a nice dimension to the cozy feel of firelight glow. Compare that with pine types of firewood, which on average have a firewood btu between 14 and 18 thermal units per cord, and tend to pop and fume while it burns.

Making absolutely certain that good firewood burns effectively is ensuring it is well seasoned. Well seasoned is just a jargon term for pronouncing the firewood needs to be fully dry. It usually takes cut wood between one and 2 years to become utterly dried of internal moisture after being cut. Until firewood is dry, making an attempt to burn it will end in wood that pops and sizzles thanks to the moisture that’s literally boiling as it burns. It’ll also emit the creosote (a smoke residue) which will gunk up a chimney and become a fire danger.

So if you've got the wherewithal to split firewood and stack it for effective drying, go with oak firewood. Otherwise, see to it that you get your wood from a firewood producer who sells hardwood varieties, like oak firewood, and that your supplier does a good job of drying his wood for sale. Then go back home and bundle up in front of a warm and cozy fire, and enjoy some firewood comfort this winter!

Katherine Parker is the Southeast Texas Trees LLC information contributor, giving information here about what wood makes for good firewood. One of the finest methods to evaluate good firewood is by knowing the firewood btu of diverse trees.

Choosing a fireplace for any room in your house is an important decision. Fireplaces are centrepieces so taking time to consider all the options and deciding on the key features one at a time will help you select the best fireplace for your room. Your choices will be led by whether you are replacing an existing fireplace or putting in a completely new one and whether you want to use it to heat the room or simply as a cosmetic feature. As the focal point of the room its appearance makes all the difference to the atmosphere, imagine the effect of a marble fireplace in enhancing the look of a lounge.

The size and proportions of your fireplace are vital in any decision-making. The choice of fireplace will need to be led by the size of any existing chimney breast and must be chosen to fit in the room without dominating it or looking too small.

The materials used in the fireplace also play a part in the character of the piece. A marble fireplace can add grandeur and elegance to a room, a limestone fireplace can add warmth from the stone. A marble fireplace can be a purely natural marble or a micro-grained marble which has been worked to create a particular effect such as pearl finish or marfil. A limestone fireplace may have natural features within the stone like fossils which give each fireplace a unique quality.

Fireplace colour also matters, selecting a colour to suit your room and other general features of the buildings will help ensure it is in keeping with the rest of the home. A marble fireplace could be beige or white. A limestone fireplace has a naturally warm stone colour. Colour variations may be subtle but they are important.

Next it is necessary to consider the style of the fireplace, something ornate with intricate carving or something plain and geometric. Whichever style you select you will need to consider that a fireplace will stay in the home long term and so it is best to avoid anything too outlandish, a rule of thumb is the funkier the design the less likely it will be to stand the test of time. Older houses may be of a particular style and choosing a fireplace that matches the era the house was built in can be a good idea, for example, for a Victorian or Edwardian design, there are many faithfully reproduced styles available.

Deciding which fireplace to buy will also depend on the kind of fire you are going to burn be it for gas or anelectric fire, or if you are choosing a fireplace purely for cosmetic reasons. Making sure the fire suits the fireplace is of fundamental importance.

Finally everyone has a budget to work within, so having decided whether you would like a limestone fireplace or a marble fireplace the next step is to find a design within your financial constraints.

In conclusion choosing a fireplace to suit your home can be approached in a methodical way and the choices narrowed down at each phase until you have finally selected something which enhances the aesthetic appeal of your home, adds warmth and cosiness and potentially adds value to the property as well.

There are also window sealants that will get this job done more efficiently. However, they more expensive to buy as well as remove once the winter months pass. Many people complain that in this way, they do not have the option of opening their windows to let some fresh air in once in a while. Window replacements and insulation can seal up cracks and manufactures make special windows for economical heating purposes.

The solution to this problem is easy: simply do not seal one of the windows. A single window will not let in too much air and will let you air out the house as you wish. Another great solution to cold air coming through the windows is putting up curtains. Of course these are not sealed and will not keep all the cold air out, but they will certainly help. Not to mention, they are a great item for your home. Stay active around the home and keep active.

Put down insulation in the crack between the door and the floor or cover it up with plastic wrap. You will note within minutes how much warmer the rest of your home becomes.Even before home heating was invented, people used rugs (on the floors and on the walls) to keep their rooms warm. Even today, this may be one of the best tricks to keeping your home cold proof. There any many different types to chose from so consult a local contractor on what they can do to the home.

If you get the most expensive windows, it may even reduce the need to seal the windows all together. For homes that get very cold every winter (despite the inside heating) the best thing to do is evaluate the efficiency of the siding. Although it is not suggested that you leave an oven on for now purpose, baking for a few hours will automatically warm the room and create a fantastic smell around the living area. Keep you favorite high sock with grips on the bottom on when you roam the house.

You will notice that the wrap will protrude from the window and be colder at the touch, indicating that there is indeed cold air coming through and being trapped in the plastic. Covering windows with clear bags keeps warm air inside and cold air outside. If you are uncomfortable doing this then visit a local hardware store and consult with an associate about the best practices for your home. Small investments will be worth the savings that will be seen on the next energy bill.

Tree Removals Services: A Sound Investment

Tree Removals Services: A Sound Investment

Tree Loppers also offer a variety of tree and stump services including tree removals, stump grinding and pruning. Given the proven fact that removing a tree can be both tough and dodgy, tree lopping services can really make things less complicated and safer. Tree loppers and Tree Surgeons are specially trained for these sorts of jobs, and can carry them out in an effective way. It is better to get these experts to do tree lopping rather than attempting it yourself, as they have the licenses needed by the Government.

Tree chopping down services can greatly help folks who specialize in the fields of landscaping and land developing. Tree Loppers are also frequently needed by architects in preparing land for new development. Felled trees can be turned into timber, boards and other construction materials.

The best way to Choose the Perfect Tree Removal Service for you:

A good tree removal service should be cost-effective without compromising on quality or the end result. Beware of Tree Loppers whose rates are extremely low, as they may not have the required qualifications, hardware or tree lopping knowledge.

A good tree removal service should be efficient in the way that it can live up to the client’s expectations. A good tree surgeon should always be on time and finish a task when they have told you they might. It’s important that a tree removalist is safe, efficient, trusty and prompt. You can resolve whether they have these qualities by having a look at their customer testimonials and the quality of previous work they have done.

In the final analysis it comes down to job performance- if the customer is satisfied with the way your job has been done- whether or not that’s tree lopping, stump grinding or pruning, then you definitely have had an experience with a good tree surgeon.

A new home stands for a new start and this can be incredibly exciting. Moving house is often associated with being a very stressful period of time, you can’t let the negative aspects of the move impact on the positives. Moving house gives you a great opportunity to design the home that you have always wanted.

Going through your new house room by room, you’ll no doubt come up with all sorts of ideas of how to improve them or revamp them so they complement your personal tastes. However, you need to take your time with the decorating because you can only focus on one thing at a time.

The first rooms you need to look at decorating are those you will use the most. For example, the living room ought to be among the very first candidates for a revamp. This is simply down to the fact that most of us use the living room for relaxation and socialising – something you’ll want to do a lot of at first.

A great way of starting things off is to replace the fireplace. The fireplace is such a dominant feature in the living room that replacing an existing one gives you ample opportunity to stamp your authority on the house and to endow it with some of your own personality.

Your interior design sensibilities could lead you to a nice new stone fireplace, or to a classic wooden fireplace, or even to an impressive marble fireplace. These are all great options and it is just a matter of finding the one that fits your plans best.

Remember that the fireplace you choose is likely to remain the only permanent fixture in your living room for the duration of your time in the house. This means you need to make a very wise choice, so be sure to take your time. Stone, marble and wooden fireplaces are designed to stand the test of time, so they will outlast all superficial changes.

Maybe it’s the way that towns light up with illuminations at the start of winter, or the way that the snow seems to sparkles like diamonds under streetlamps, but there is something magical about the evenings in the winter. When the sun sets and night closes in early, it seems to give everyone permission to relax, put their feet up, and nestle in. Alternative lighting in the evenings only aids with this.

Christmas lights are the favourite. A string of lights hanging over the curtain rails can light up a room and make it feel especially lovely and magical. Even in addition to the lights on a tree, it’s great to put lights up all over the home, and in different rooms.

If the day time is characterized by children’s toys and endless chores, then when the children go to bed, you can make the space special by lighting candles you would normally not have around with the kids about. Giving you and your partner some special space.

Everyone loves a real fire. The warm glow of a fire can cosy up a room faster than anything. Reading by the light of the fire or simply chatting into the night on the floor by the fire all snuggled up can be a lovely way to spend an evening. Even gas fireplaces give off a nice glow without the mess of a real fire.

Winter is a great time for low level lighting like from lamps and small fixtures or spot lights. Have you ever thought of using pink light bulbs to soften the lighting in a room? You can get virtually any colour of light bulb nowadays.

Between the magic of fairly lights, the warmth of a fire, the romance of candles, and the cosiness of soft low level lighting, your home can be a haven in the winter, and a place you want to be to spend quality time. Make it special.

Fireplace screens are for a lot more than just fire safety; they are amazing decorations too. Wrought iron, brass, and even stained glass are used to make these screens. There is a unique sense of togetherness and family associated with sitting around the fireplace; a warm hearth is a great place to enjoy one another’s company. Despite the fact that people now depend on modern technology to heat their homes during the winter, many folks still love to keep their fireplaces lit. Because the fireplace is an important part of the home, it is logical that folks like to decorate them, adorning the mantle with photos and other keepsakes. How do fire place tools and fire place screen designs augment the style of your home?

Normal brass and rod iron fireplace screen designs are made to prevent sparks and other debris from escaping the fireplace. They stop debris and sparks from exiting by using metal mesh nets which are interwoven in three or more panels between several bars. If you want a simple, yet functional, fire place screen, these are certainly your best options. You can find them in several different designs; some are square, others arched, some come with decorative embellishments, and some even have doors.

By far, the most fancifully decorative and eye catching options are stained and painglass fireplace screen designs. There is no doubt that stained glass has been a well known form of art and design for hundreds of years. Today, creative designers have used stained glass to add a unique and colorful touch to fireplace screens. There are hundreds of different screens crafted using colored glass, in designs that range from geometrical patterns to floral artwork.

Smaller towns and rural communities usually have limited selections for people looking for a painglass fireplace screen, folding fireplace screen, or rod iron fireplace screen. If you look online, however, you will find dozens of stores that specialize in screens of all different styles and materials. In addition to screens, they may also offer fire place tools and fire pits that you can use to decorate.

Fireplace screens, in all their different forms, make lovely decorative additions to your home. Web based shops have a wide variety of selections for you to choose from.

What’s with people’s fear of electricity? Yes it costs, but so do new boots, and so does the food shopping. Well of course there is the whole environmental/energy saving issue, but given the circumstances of our lives, are we always making the savings in the right place? Do we cut our nose off sometimes to spite our face?

We seem fearful of putting a load of laundry in the tumble dryer, of switching on our electric fireplace, or of running the dishwasher, but then think nothing of going online and doing a bit of shopping or buying ready meals at the supermarket. It’s been argued that these modern conveniences don’t save that much time, but I would argue back that whoever is claiming that lives on their own and is not looking after a busy household.

Many a housewife remarks that her clothes are “out on the line” during the middle of winter. This just seems a little over kill. Is it really worth it to go outside in the freezing cold to put out the clothes even if the wind dries them? Then there is the challenge of hanging clothes all over the house on radiators and bizarre looking things so that the homes during the winter resemble the back room of a charity shop. People would rather spend time cleaning up after a real fire because electric fireplaces “cost more”.

It’s with guilt that many mothers dump a load of laundry in their tumble dryer, in fact the guilt even ruins that warm feeling off all those snuggly warm clothes as she folds them and puts them away because she spotted her neighbours clothes clapping in the icy breeze. There are more than a few ways though of saving money and saving the earth. It is not all about doing without and taking the hard road in everything. It’s really worth working out just how much time and effort is being used “saving money” and work out if it could be better spent somewhere else. Clothes air dried do need to be ironed, and it would be interested calculating the cost of ironing and the time it takes, capered to a tumble dryer and the price of ready meals the family is eating because there is no time to cook.

Modern inventions are not out to get us. Sure, use things in moderation and be sensible. Don’t just throw your favourite shirt in the wash on its own because you suddenly fancy wearing it in a few hours…and don’t run the dishwasher half full, but by all means, enjoy the convenience!
